Fiber Sourcing

From Farm to Fiber in New York State. Through strategic infrastructure investments and statewide collaboration, the New York Fashion Innovation Center (NYFIC) is strengthening the systems that move fiber from farm to finished material. Currently, we are focused on supporting these essential parts of the ecosystem:

Northeast Fiber Exchange (NEFX)

NEFX is a centralized natural fiber marketplace created to support New York’s interest in sustainable textile creation. Developed by the Hudson Valley Textile Project (HVTP) in partnership with NYFIC, NEFX connects fiber producers directly with designers, manufacturers, and fiber buyers looking for high-quality local materials.

By aggregating fiber from farms throughout New York, NEFX helps create a more resilient regional supply chain, promoting sustainable fiber production and supporting small businesses and makers throughout the textile ecosystem.

Clean Fleece

Before fiber can become yarn, fabric, or product, it must be cleaned and prepared. Clean Fleece is a HVTP initiative that supports scouring, carding, and batting production using upgraded equipment funded in part through NYFIC’s infrastructure investments.

This strengthens New York’s ability to process fiber locally and support farm-to-fashion development.

Together, NEFX and Clean Fleece help close one of the most critical gaps in New York’s textile ecosystem: ensuring that fiber grown here can be sourced, cleaned, and prepared here.

If you are a farmer, designer, manufacturer, or researcher interested in working with New York fiber, we invite you to connect.
