About
Our Consortium Partners
The NYFIC consortium brings together leading institutions across research, agriculture, education, manufacturing and design to strengthen New York’s sustainable textile supply chain. From fiber cultivation and processing to fashion innovation and commercialization, our partners collaborate to drive forward a more resilient, circular, and locally connected textile ecosystem.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
As the lead institution of NYFIC, RPI brings deep expertise in engineering, biomaterials, and entrepreneurship. With world-class research labs and the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship, RPI supports innovation in natural and bioengineered fibers through advanced testing, fiber processing, and a business accelerator program.
Hudson Valley Textile Project (HVTP)
HVTP is a nonprofit connecting farmers, processors, and makers across New York and beyond. It operates the Northeast Fiber Exchange—a wool aggregation and warehousing hub—and Clean Fleece NY, a wool scouring facility. Through its education and business development work, HVTP plays a vital role in strengthening New York’s animal fiber supply chain from farm to market.
Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)
FIT brings together design, science, and innovation to advance sustainable materials and entrepreneurship in fashion. Through its faculty and labs, FIT supports NYFIC’s work in fashion design, bio-based textile development, and education—with a focus on prototyping, testing, and mentorship.
Made X Hudson
A small batch factory with slow-fashion boutiques based in Catskill, NY, Made X Hudson helps designers move from concept to retail. With a focus on ethical production and sustainable materials, they co-lead NYFIC’s business accelerator and provide mentoring in apparel development, brand strategy, and go-to-market planning.
SUNY Morrisville
Located on 300 acres of farm land in Central New York, SUNY Morrisville focuses on educating the agricultural workforce of tomorrow. They support NYFIC through bast fiber crop research and outreach education to help connect the supply chain from farm gate to textile project development.
The Field to Fiber Company
Based in New York’s Capital Region, The Field to Fiber Company connects North American hemp farmers to the textile industry. As the first U.S. operation specializing in processing long-staple plant fibers into sliver for spinning and nonwovens, they are helping NYFIC build the infrastructure and technical capacity to scale sustainable bast fiber production
