Grant FAQ’s
-
We aim to award 14-16 grants per year, which is typically 7-8 per semi-annual grant application cycle.
-
Our goal is to stimulate innovation and supply chain development in all the subject areas we list. However, depending on the number and content of the proposals we receive, we may not award one grant per subject area for each grant call.
-
Yes, grant awardees must be registered in or have physical operations located in New York state. Physical operations may include retail locations, manufacturing and design, or other supply chain logistics. The goal of NYFIC is to support the use of New York-based resources and infrastructure, and the growth of our state economy, so the more New York presence, the better!
-
Our review process may take up to 2-3 months. Anticipated award dates are usually included in each grant call.
-
Grants are not intended to fund basic research. For other questions regarding expenditure exclusions, please consult the grant instructions and application.

Yes, as long as they are registered or have physical operations in New York.
-
Yes, NYFIC aims to create a network of stakeholders in the New York textile design and manufacturing industry. NYFIC can assist awardees with forming connections across the New York fashion and interiors supply chain. However, successful proposals should bring adequate partnerships to ensure project success and should not hinge on relationships built by NYFIC.
-
There is no problem with a proposal fitting into multiple subject categories.
-
Using materials that are grown, raised, or made in New York is one of the best ways to support NYFIC goals, so proposals that include substantial use of New York resources tend to be more favorably reviewed. However, we understand that there are many sustainable materials for which there is not yet an established supply chain in New York. In this case, we expect there to be a large New York-based manufacturing component to help support NYFIC goals. Overall, proposals that highlight the use of New York-based materials and workforce do better in our review process.
